Programs available at Cary Elementary School:
There are many other opportunities that a counselor is involved with outside of individual sessions, small groups, and classroom guidance. If you have any questions about these, please do not hesitate to contact Meliene Bawden, school counselor.
- Reading Buddies: Students from Cary High School come to Cary Elementary School once a week to read with students. This is not only a great academic resource as students are both reading AND being read to, but also helps foster the sense of community at Cary Elementary.
- Foster Grandparents: Cary Elementary is lucky to have TWO "foster grandparents" that come for 20 hours a week each to help support students. They work on fluency, comprehension, phonemic awareness, and other topics that are helpful to students' academic success.
- Jesse Tree/Holiday Help: Cary Elementary partners with local churches and agencies (and enlists the help of caring Cary families) to help provide food and other necessities to local Cary families who find themselves in need during the holiday season. If you are interested in helping to donate, please contact Meliene Bawden.
- Kids Care Club: Students and parent volunteers join with the counselor to provide an opportunity for fundraising for relevant causes, food drives, and spreading kindness.
